Root Canal Treatment

Enamel, Dentin, and Pulp are the three layers that make up the outer portion of a tooth’s crown.

Filling or restoration can be used to address dental decay that is limited to the first two layers. An RCT or Endodontic Treatment is required if tooth decay has progressed to the third layer and has caused pulp irritation or infection.

When tooth decay reaches the pulp, producing inflammation, Root Canal Treatment (RCT) is performed by an Endodontist, also called a Root Canal Specialist. It is critical to avoid extracting the damaged tooth.

In comparison to traditional root canal treatment, microscope assisted RCT yields results that are more accurate and flawless.

Postoperative instructions after root canal treatment

  • Root canal treatment can take 1 to 2 appointments to complete.
  • Avoid chewing on the treated tooth until the anesthesia has completely worn off.
  • You may experience pain and discomfort once the anesthesia wears off. Take medications as prescribed to avoid discomfort.
  • It is normal to experience some pain or discomfort for several days, especially while chewing on the treated tooth. This will slowly subside within a few days or weeks.
  • Between appointments it is common for a small portion of your temporary filling or crown to wear away or break off. If the entire filling falls out or the temporary crown comes off, please call us.
  • Avoid chewing on hard and sticky foods.
  • If your bite feels uneven, you have persistent pain, or you have any swelling, please call us.
  • A crown protects the root canal treated tooth from breaking in the future. Hence it is critical to have the crown placed as soon as possible.
  • Delay in obtaining a crown may result in fracture and possible loss of the tooth.
